Scalp Med the Hair Loss Drug - Does it Work to Regrow Hair?- Friday, December 07, 2007
Hair loss suffererers seeking hair loss help are often seeking to regrow hair through the use of hair loss drugs. Scalp Med is one of the many hair loss medications on the forefront of the market, advertised often through TV infomercials and radio. Hair loss pictures, videos, testimonies all show hair loss sufferers regrowing hair even if these hair loss patients were mostly bald. But does this hair loss treatment function as promised? Should balding men and women expect to regrow a full head of hair as displayed on their television and spoken about through commercial testimonies? Could Scalp Med indeed a miracle cure for hair loss? One has to understand that advertising at best typically overreaches in order to sell a product. In other words, regardless of what is being sold, we can’t always believe everything we see or hear in commercialized advertisements. Taking aside for a minute the “success” stories from Scalp Med infomercial, there are a few things everyone should understand about Scalp Med. Scalp Med is said to be FDA approved. Scalp Med itself is not but the active ingredient is which is Minoxodil (found in Rogaine) which is one of the two FDA approved hair drugs both for safety and efficacy. The inactive ingredients (unnamed on their website from what I have observed) is said only to provide you with healthier hair. So the question one needs to be asking is, what does Scalp Med mean by "healthier hair"? Quoted directly from Scalp Med’s website, it says: ”Scalp Med consists of several products. Vitadil-5A and Vitadil-2A which contain FDA-approved formulas for hair growth. The ACTIVE ingredient in both of these products is minoxodil. The other products in the Scalp Med system will provide you with thicker, cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful hair.” Please note that “the other products in Scalp Med” do not say anything about regrowing hair. In fact what is stated about the other ingredients/products of Scalp Med can also be said about a volumizing shampoo: “…thicker, cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful hair”. Because there are proven success stories about minoxodil out there, one has to conclude that Scalp Med might also work to combat against baldness and maybe even regrow hair. The results shown however, in the commercial are not typical. Even Scalp Med admits in their infomercial (though stated in small fine print): ”Results seen are NOT typical”. What is the difference then between Scalp Med and Minoxodil (Rogaine)? The answer is simple: the price! Scalp Med is much more expensive than minoxodil. A two month supply of Scalp Med can be purchased at $159.80. Buying in bulk will help save you money, but even a 6 month supply will cost you $385.77. Scalp Med's VERY BEST DEAL offers you Minoxodil and a few products that act as a volumizing shampoo at a cost of $64.30 per month. Rogaine containing minoxodil can be purchased at a price between $20-$25 per month whereas generic minoxodil is between $10-$15 per month. In my opinion, I would purchase Rogaine or generic minoxodil in order to save money.
