Can Alfatradiol Replace Minoxidil to Treat Hair Loss?- Sunday, April 05, 2009

Question:

I have been using minoxidil for hair loss for years now with not very good results, I was told by a dermatologist overseas to switch to alfatradiol, how effective is it?

Answer:

Alfatradiol also known as Pantostin, has been approved in Germany along with minoxidil for the treatment of female pattern baldness.

Studies show that while Rogaine (minoxidil) can increase hair density and thickness with continued use, alfatradiol at best, can only decelerate or stabilize the progression of pattern hair loss.

It wouldn't appear from the studies that alfatradiol is a viable replacement for minoxidil however; it may be an amicable adjunct hair loss treatment. However, since it's still not available in the United States, depending on where you are located, you may have some difficulty getting your hands on it.
