Dr. Carman has a strong background in plastic surgery and trained intensively with Coalition member Dr. Bill Reed during his one year fellowship in hair transplantation. Dr. Reed was very impressed with Dr. Carman's ethics and final results and invited him to join his clinic. Dr. Carman now works with Dr. Reed and his experienced staff performing large sessions of ultra refined follicular unit hair transplantation.

Dr. Carman shares Dr. Reed's philosophy of putting the patient’s best interest above technical dogma and his compassion and commitment. Dr. Carman's passion for great work and patients is also evident in his active participation on the Hair Transplant Network discussion forum. Dr. Carman also has a strong interest in painting and sculpting. His eye for design and careful attention to detail is evident in the hairline and crown patterns he creates for his patients.

Using cutting instruments as small as a 20 gauge needle, Dr. Carman creates a combination of tiny sagital (parallel) and coronal (perpendicular) incisions depending on the area of baldness and the position of the native hair. His goal is to mimic the natural angulation and direction of the patient's hair. He believes that in using this approach, he can easily work around existing hair without requiring shaving.

Dr. Carman uses the trichophytic closure technique for all hair transplants he performs and closes the donor area utilizing a single layer running suture.   He believes that this not only minimizes tension on the skin, but it provides equal tension along the entire suture line, minimizing scarring.  All follicular units are dissected and trimmed under microscopes and carefully placed by Dr. Carman’s experienced staff under his direct supervision.

Dr. Carman is a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) and is also a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and the American Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons (ASHRS).
