Why Isn't Rogaine Foam Recommended for Women with Hair Loss? - Sunday, November 29, 2009

Question:

As a woman, can I use Rogaine 5% foam? My dermatologist recommended it because he said that it works better with women. I ordered it and on the spray bottle it clearly indicates "not for use by women". I don't really know what to do. Please give me your feed back.

Answer:

The 5% minoxidil solution (including Rogaine foam) isn’t recommended for women with hair loss due to the possibility of unwanted body and facial hair growth. Not all women experience this, however, it’s important that you’re familiar with all the possible side effects of any medication you're considering. The 2% minoxidil solution is less likely to grow hair in unwanted areas.
