Appropriate Hair Loss Treatments for an 18 Year Old - Tuesday, February 02, 2010

Question:

I am 18 years old and I have had a receding hairline for the past two years. I would like to know if it is safe for me to use products like Provillus, Rogaine or any other hair restoration product.

Answer:

While all medication comes with the possibility of side effects, Rogaine (minoxidil) is considered pretty safe. For men, I strongly recommend using the Rogaine foam which according to FDA clinical trials, has a much higher success rate than its liquid 5% solution counterpart.

While Rogaine will give you the hair growth stimulating properties you need, I strongly recommend adding an antiandrogen, a treatment designed to stop the production of the hormone responsible for hair loss DHT. To date, Propecia (finasteride) is the only FDA approved and most effective antiandrogen on the market. Be sure to become familiar with the possible side effects by talking to your physician and perusing Merck’s website for Propecia.

You may also want to consider adding Nizoral 2% shampoo to your hair loss treatment regime. Nizoral is a magnificent adjunct treatment to other proven solutions proven to stop the formation of scalp DHT and contains growth stimulating properties about as effective as Rogaine 2%.

I hope this helps.
