Xandrox and Female Hair Loss - Thursday, February 04, 2010

Question:

I am a female with hair loss. I quit the use of Xandrox and my hair loss started again. I want to know how long it takes to successfully treat hair loss and restore it completely. What are the side effects of Xandrox? And what relation does it have to block androgen hormones?

Answer:

Any non-surgical hair loss treatment only works as long as you keep using it. Thus, if Xandrox was preventing your hair loss from continuing and/or helping you restore your hair, you may want to get back on it.

Since Xandrox includes the active ingredient minoxidil, it comes with the same potential side effects as Rogaine.

This includes the possibility of chest pain, rapid heartbeat, faintness, dizziness, sudden and unexplained weight gain, swelling of the hands and feet, scalp irritation, and unwanted facial hair growth.  Experiencing any of these potential side effects should result in stopping this hair loss medication.  Additionally if this treatment for hair loss doesn’t help start to regrow hair in 4 months, then stopping the medication is best.

Minoxidil does nothing to block the male androgen hormone DHT however; Xandrox also includes azelaic acid which may help reduce the amount of DHT in the scalp. You may also want to consider trying S5 Cream, a topical solution containing spironolactone also designed to reduce the amount of surface DHT.
