Oddly enough, there is not much information on "Testim". However, since those experiencing hair loss who are undergoing Testin have contacted us, we thought we'd share what we've learned.
Since Testim is used to increase the amount of testosterone in the body, the body may be producing more DHT (dihydrotestosterone) - the hormone responsible for androgeneic alopecia (genetic hair loss). Since hereditary baldness is triggered by male androgen hormones such as DHT, those indulging in Testim Hormonal Replacement Therapy may want to discuss hair loss and other repercussions of undergoing this treatment with their doctor.
Since Rogaine (minoxidil) is a proven topical treatment for hair loss, it may help slow down the balding process and even stimulate some moderate hair regrowth. However, Rogaine does nothing to inhibit the production of DHT. Propecia (finasteride) is a proven men's treatment for hair loss which inhibits the production of DHT. Propecia works by targeting type II 5-alpha-reductase enzymes and prevents them from combining with testosterone to produce DHT. You may want to talk to your physician about the benefits and potential dangers of using this medication, especially while undergoing hormonal replacement therapy.
