Why Can't Rogaine with 5% Minoxidil for Men be used by Women? - Thursday, September 25, 2008

Question:

Why is it that the Rogaine with 5% minoxidil for men cannot be used by women?

Answer:

The reason why Rogaine with 5% minoxidil has not been FDA approved for women is because some women who have used it had hair growth in undesirable areas including the forehead, cheeks, upper lip, legs, and arms. These unwanted side effects are still possible with the 2% minoxidil Rogaine, but have been reported far less frequently.

Some dermatologists have prescribed 5% minoxidil to women with excessive hair loss or thinning hair.

Keep in mind that women who are pregnant or breast feeding should not use Rogaine at any concentration according to their website.
