Does Daily Hair Washing Cause Hair Loss? - Sunday, December 14, 2008

Daily hair washing doesn't cause hair loss. This is a fear driven hair loss myth that started when balding men and women were seeing strands or clumps of hair in the shower.

The real reason for noticeable hair in the shower is because any action to your hair, such as showering, brushing, combing, towel drying, running your fingers through it, etc. will remove hairs that have already detached themselves from the hair root beneath the scalp tissue.

Know that even healthy hair goes through normal hair growth cycles. Hair susceptible to loss in men and women with androgenic alopecia will begin to miniaturize as their hair growth cycle shortens, prolonging the length of catagen (the resting phase), and shortening anagen (the growth phase).

You are safe washing your hair daily without risking further hair loss.
