Is Using Rogaine Hair Loss Treatment Once Daily As Effective as Twice Daily?- Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Question:

I am 28 years old and am losing hair at the vertex (crown) of my head. Though I haven't experienced too much hair loss yet, a large portion of my scalp is seen when my hair is wet or a bright light shines on it. My doctor recommended 2% Rogaine to be applied once daily preferably at bedtime. I have read that it should be used twice daily with an interval of approximately 12 hours. Is it ok to use the 2% Rogaine once daily as recommended by my doctor?

Answer:

Though it's recommended to use Rogaine (minoxidil) twice daily for optimal results, many hair loss sufferers use Rogaine once a day with great success.

Keep in mind that minoxidil 2% isn't as effective as the 5% solution. 5% is usually recommended for men since it's stronger and more effective. Women however, run the risk of growing unwanted facial or body hair with the 5% solution.

If you are reluctant to use minoxidil twice daily, you may start out using it once a day for at least 4 months to see if it slows down, stops, or reverses your hair loss. You can also increase to taking it twice daily or upgrade to the 5% solution if you find your current method unsuccessful.
