"For me, I think that one of the most important things to use is a chisel cut blade. The reason is, is because a chisel cut is the exact same shape and size of the hair follicle. And by doing that, you can cause the least amount of trauma to the scalp. By doing that, you can put more grafts in, in a tighter area while causing the same amount of traumas another doctor can do with about half as many grafts. So your hair density, it's twice as good, and grows in well, the grafts do not die. They're very viable and do well. Also with these chisel cut blades, I believe that the way they need to be put in is through a horizontal or lateral slit incision. The reason for this is because it is extremely important that the hair have the proper angle to look natural. And without that right angle, it looks totally unnatural and will grow the wrong direction. It will be a dead give away. To achieve this correct angle through a lateral slit, the only way the hair can go is properly as opposed to a vertical slit, the hair might scar in several different directions the doctor didn't want it, which can make it appear very unnatural. Also, what's important is to take extreme care when placing your grafts, that you be sure that the one hair grafts are in the front."

"I think it's very important that the doctor understands that the person is an individual and they need to find someone that is like that, that can give them a hairline and a hair transplant that is specific ally for them - something that isn't just rolled out, the same every time, but something that fits their face, fits what their hair loss is, and their age. All of these things are very important because you'll find that a lot of hair surgeons will do the same hairline on everybody. A 50 year old person doesn't want the hairline of a 25 year old. Neither does a 25 year old want the hairline of a 50 year old. It's also extremely important for the patient to talk to the doctor. So often, they'll go and talk to a sales person who is trying to convince them to have their hair transplant there when they don't understand what the needs of the patient are, what the doctor can do for that patient and what is medically available and sensible for that patient to have."

Dangers of Being Uneducated and Undergoing Surgery by Dr. Alexander

Dr. Scott Alexander discusses the dangers of undergoing surgical hair restoration and being uneducated.

Below is a transcript of the hair transplant video for your reference.

"I think that the most important thing a person can do is to get educated. A lot of the people with hair transplants are a little bit nervous about going out into public and letting people know how they feel about their hair. They're also a little reluctant to going out and getting educated. That is one of the benefits of the internet. I think it's extremely important for them to go and talk to several doctors, go and review several websites, to see what's out there and what's available, what is a state of the art hair transplant. Everybody is going to suggest that what they do is the best thing that's offered. The patient is the only one who is going to be able to go out and find out for himself through education what is truly the finest state of the art hair transplant available that will give them the most natural look and the best hairline possible, something that is undetectable and not noticeable. And without education, you are going to have a hard time really understanding who is the person you should have do that hair transplant procedure."

"Today, a patient can realistically expect something that is very natural and undetectable. Quality hair transplants are so new that the general public has no idea what to expect or what to look for. When we do our hair transplants right after they are performed, people can go out in public. People have no idea what that patient had. They appear to be someone who had a rash or sunburn on their head. They don't appear to have anything that looks unsightly, or ugly, or very gruesome at all right after surgery".

"When I was going to college, I was trying to decide which avenues I wanted to take for my profession, my vocation and I was very interested in the sciences in medical type areas, but I also had a lot of training in artistic areas, lots of different art classes and things like that. I was very good in those things. While I was in college, I was an art minor along with being a pre-med student. At that time, I took a lot of drawing classes, anatomy classes, studies anatomy and how the bones structures lined up with the skin and the other structures of the body and to be able to understand anatomically what was right. "I think that it's extremely important to treat a patient as an individual. And I really enjoy trying to give them artistic, natural looking hairlines specific for that patient and not something that's going to look the same for every patient. I really pride myself into my artistic abilities with the training that I've had throughout my life of being able to give something that looks extremely good and undetectable and right for that patient, to look good. In order to do this, I use the finest blades possible, much smaller than most of the general hair transplant surgeons would use. It's extremely difficult and takes a lot more time. But I pride myself in being able to give that patient that extra time, to give that hair restoration patient something that's going to last a lifetime for them."

"I think that my strong points are number one, I show great compassion for the patient. I'm always available to always be there for the patient when they need me. I want to make them feel happy, comfortable and to have a great experience. We have a great staff. I want to be able to be there for the patient and explain to them exactly what they need and exactly what they can achieve. I always see my patients on their hair transplant consults. I do not have anybody else who is going to give them information because I believe it's very important for them to be educated with what's truly out there, with what's available and what's right for them."
