Does Male Pattern Hair Loss Cause Soreness and Itching?

Question:

I'm 20 years old and suffer from what I think is male pattern baldness. I've been to a dermatologist because of the soreness and bumps starting to surround my head. It is even sore to the touch and when I lay on my pillow. My dermatologist told me that it could be hereditary and gave me fluocinonide for the soreness and itching but it didn't work. This has been going on for about two years and I don't know what to do.

Answer:

Androgenic alopecia (male pattern balding) is not normally accompanied by soreness, itching and bumps. I am not a physician but I can tell you that a number of conditions including eczema and dermatitis can cause symptoms such as these.

The only suggestion I can make is to get a second opinion from a dermatologist specializing in hair loss or contact one of our prescreened quality hair restoration physicians for a consultation.
