Sadly, some men haven't gotten the memo about terrible hairstyles for men with thinning/balding hair. In some cases, masking or trying to disguise the appearance of thinning can look worse than the hair loss itself. Some men will go to great lengths to fool the public, but end up fooling nobody but themselves. In this article, we will go over the top 3 worst hair styles for thinning/balding men.
Number 1. The Side Comb Over
It goes without saying, the side comb over is one of the worst hairstyles a bald man can sport. It is so painfully obvious to everyone except the bald man himself. Thankfully, in recent years the side comb over has become less popular because of the negative connotation associated with having a side comb over. The side comb over occurs when an individual grows the sides of their hair long, so they can comb over and "conceal" the balding/bald scalp. Unfortunately, not every guy has gotten the memo and there are still some men today sporting a side comb over.
Number 2. Back Comb Over
Unfortunately, some men have fooled themselves in to believing that a back comb over is better than a side comb over, but that isn't true. In fact, the back comb over is arguably worse than a side comb over, because the hair doesn't cover the scalp at all and looks ridiculously unnatural. The back comb over occurs when an individual grows the hair on the back of their scalp extra long in an attempt to comb it forward over the scalp to "conceal" the bald scalp.
Number 3. Long Sides Bald Top
While the other two hair styles show an awareness of hair loss, but a terrible attempt to conceal the hair loss in an obvious way. This last hair style shows a complete lack of awarenesss or denial in terms of balding/thinning. Unfortunately, as androgenic alopecia (genetic hair loss) progresses, the same hairstyle an individual was once able to wear is no longer feasible because of the lack of hair on top. However, this doesn't stop some men from continuing to sport their long hair on the sides with little to nothing on top. Needeless to say, this is not the most flattering hairstyle a man with a thinning/bald head can sport.
Whil there are a variety of bad hairstyles balding men can wear, there are also a variety of good hair styles a balding man can sport. The buzzed look has become quite popular in recent times, due to certain actors and celebrities sporting the look. The shaved head was once taboo, but has now gained acceptance by society in general; also due to certain celebrities and actors rocking the look with style. However, balding/bald men still have the opportunity to restore their hair surgically through hair restoration and also prevent further hair loss with the use of medications like Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride). Both of the medications are FDA approved to treat genetic hair loss.
