"I think if I was to sell myself or if a patient was to ask me why they should come to me, I'd say well because I dedicated my practice, 95% almost 100% to hair restoration. It's because I've evolved significantly over the years. I discuss a lot of what I do with colleagues. I try to educate myself as much as possible. I feel that we are doing work, using techniques, on par with the elite hair transplant surgeons of the world. I consider new techniques and incorporate them if I find them, beneficial to the patient. Patients also have the opportunity to have extensive communication with the doctor who's doing the surgery. Also, the patient has the opportunity to come for plenty of follow-up, etc."

The Farjo Medical Centre

"Another case is just a patient I brought with me to this conference, Adrian who wasn't lacking self confidence, but was really frustrated with his hair. He wasn't sure whether or not he should just shave his head. And if he didn't shave his head, there wasn't much he could do. And he completely shocked me because he came back a year after his hair transplant, and bleached his hair with a mohawk style. He shaved the back of his head like a train track and put a smudge of blue at the back of his head. He was just so overjoyed with his hair that he decided to do the whackiest thing he could do because he just didn't have the opportunity before. And I've seen him 2 or 3 times since then and every time he does something completely different with his hair and he's just pleased that he has the opportunity to do that now."

Dr. Farjo Discusses His Hair Transplant Clinic's Strengths

Dr. Bessam Farjo discusses his hair transplant clinic strengths.

"I'd like to think that I give patients the time and the space to consider their solutions for their hair loss. I like to think that we're not selling anything to the patient. I'm mearly giving them advice. I encourage them to take time to consider the surgery...don't make a rash decision. I'm particularly proud that I see every patient for consultation, although we do have a patient coordinator who is my liason between me and the patient. After all, I can't take every single phone call or answer every single email. I also find that a lot of times that the patient likes to talk to a layperson. Sometimes they tell him things that they don't tell the doctor. But when it comes to consultation and when it comes to somebody considering surgery, everyone, the recommendation, the medical history, either myself or the other physician who happens to be my wife will see every patient. And also in the post-op review, we like to see everybody because I like to assess the majority of the grafts, what the scar is like at the back. Other strong points, I feel we have clinics that are registered in the UK, we have a system where we have to be licensed by the authorities so it's not just the doctor who's licensed, but the clinic as an establishment is licensed as well. And we're proud that we're very compliant. We're so compliant that the authorities in the last few years have exempted us from coming to inspection because they're quite happy with the way we do things."

Dr. Farjo Shares a Female Hair Loss and Hair Transplant Miracle

Dr. Bessam Farjo shares a fantastic story of how a female hair loss sufferer restored not only her hair, but her lost confidence through surgical hair restoration.

"Over the years, I've done a lot of different situations, who needed hair restoration from male pattern hair loss to female pattern hair loss to beards, mustaches, eyebrows. But a couple of recent stories I can think of right now there's a young girl who happens to be a student nurse. She had a brain tumor following which, she had radiotherapy to her head. Where the beam hit the scalp, it caused a band of hair loss across the front. This is a reasonably pretty girl, 21 year old, life just beginning. It was pretty devastating for her and she went and consulted her dermatologist who happened to know our work and he thought this would be a good case. And she not only got a great result, but she was so pleased about it that she was determined to help others in her position. So she was quite pleased to go and talk to the newspapers, the media and she got tremendous coverage. But out of that, her confidence increased so much, that I actually watched her on TV talking about her hair, and you almost think, where does this girl come from, was she the same girl who had hair restoration surgery the year before that?"

Dr. Farjo Discusses Selecting a Quality Hair Transplant Surgeon

Dr. Bessam Farjo discusses what hair loss sufferers considering hair transplantation should look for in a surgeon.

Below is a transcript of the hair transplant video for your reference.

"There are a few things that I think every patient should look at when they're choosing their hair surgeon that could be helpful in them coming across the right person. I always believe that if you dedicate the majority of your practice to hair restoration, then you become more experienced and also shows you're more committed to it. It's only natural after all. So that is more likely a type of doctor to go for. Also I tell the patient to make sure they're doctor is always kept abreast of developments, they attend meetings, they meet with colleagues, they discuss things to make sure any new development that may be of use to their patients they can incorporate into their practice. Also, see good examples of the work by their doctor. Sometimes when you go into the consultation, you see a business person, not a doctor or maybe there are several doctors working for that place. Make sure you see examples of the doctor who's actually going to be performing the surgery on you. And photographs are sometimes good enough, but I encourage them to see existing patients in person. A lot of the time I may not be able to arrange it but sometimes when someone comes in for a consultation, I very often have someone around in the clinic who just happens to be coming out of surgery or coming for a post-op review. They're very often happy to come say hi and let the patient play with their hair, etc. And very often I give the prospective patient a telephone number of a willing patient and they contact them independently and they talk over the phone or meet in person, etc. I tell them to look at independent reviews, look on the internet, do the searches. Don't believe everything you read on the internet, but use their intelligence and filter the good from the bad and it helps them make a decision. Also, talk to other doctors and go to centers around you and listen to what everyone is saying - and then go with the person you feel you can trust the most."

"I went to medical school in Ireland in Dublin, qualified in 1988 and was training in general surgery and I did 5 years of that. And that was a time I came across hair restoration surgery, came across a surgeon in Toronto in Canada. And just having a look at what he was doing as it happens, hair transplantation was going through a change, modernization, and it seemed like a very attractive field to join."

Dr. Farjo on the Importance of Educating Patients

Dr. Bessam Farjo discusses the importance of educating prospective hair transplant patients.

Below is a transcript of the hair transplant video for your reference.

"I make sure the patient is well educated on the subject. I try to avoid seeing anybody who's not even read about it and says OK, I'm here, tell me about it. There's so much to say. And there's so many different factors that I've mentioned that go into a great hair transplant. It's difficult to convey in an hour of consultation. So I try to make sure my own website is as detailed as possible. I encourage them to read other people's websites and certainly independent websites. Once they've read everything, and then come in and ask them questions about themselves in particular. I usually show them various scenarios, before and after hair transplant photos and numbers of grafts. And even maybe provide them with patients of mine, there's quite a few of them, to talk to this patient and even meet them in person. People do this because they're enthusiastic about it..."

Why Dr. Farjo Loves Performing Hair Transplants

Dr. Bessam Farjo discusses how he feels when his patients come in for a follow-up after their hair transplant results have grown in

Below is a transcript of the hair transplant video for your reference.

"I still now 15 years down the line, get this big thrill when the patient comes in for the postoperative review and I look at their hair. And they probably see a look of surprise on my face, even after all this time. It's not just the surgery, it's the art of it. It's this piece that you created. And you combine that with a change in personality of the patients, they're more outgoing, they have a big smile on their face and they're just so thrilled to see you. And I think that's the biggest thing, you know obviously being in the kind of practice I'm in it gives me other advantages, I'm my own boss, I work in a field where the surgery is considered minor surgery, there's no significant complications. But still, seeing that face on the patient when they come in and that you've changed their life literally, that's the biggest thing."
