Did Elon Musk have a hair transplant? When people think about Elon Musk, they think about his car company Tesla, or his tech-based startup company PayPal that he started in the late 1990s. What many don't know is that Elon didn't always have the head of hair that he has today, male pattern baldness doesn't spare anyone, not even billionaire entrepreneurs like Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos. However, unlike Bezos, Musk didn't just give up and shave his head. In this article, we will be discussing whether or not Elon Musk has undergone a hair transplant.
Elon Musk Struggled With Hair Loss At an Early Age
Elon Musk was born on June 28, 1971. He started to gain notoriety when he founded X.com. X.com would later change its name to PayPal, one of the most popular online financial services to date. In 1999, Elon featured in a documentary about young millionaires. In the documentary, a young Elon waits for his brand new McLaren F1, a car that retails for more than twenty million dollars. When people watch that documentary today, no one cares about the fancy car. The only thing they can look at is Elon's hairline or lack thereof. So how did he do it? Keep reading.
Elon Musk Hair Transplant Timeline
There is no doubt that Elon has undergone at least one hair transplant procedure throughout his life. But he's likely had several Follicular Unit Strip Surgery (FUSS) procedures. When you look at the timeline of his hair, he started to improve around 2002. The 2000s was a renaissance period for the hair transplant industry. The advent of hair loss forums like the hair restoration network assisted in promoting surgeons who did good work and calling out surgeons who did shoddy work. He probably got his first hair transplant sometime around 2000 or 2001.

Elon's True Transformation in the 2010s
Based on the pictures, it appears that Elon had at least one hair transplant during the 2000s, but his hairline didn't seem any lower. Elon started the new year on a mission to build the world's largest electric car company and to simultaneously restore his hair hairline. In retrospect, he succeeded at doing both what an impressive guy.

Who Was Elon's Surgeon?
Unfortunately, no one knows the answer to this question, but there are some likely candidates in North America. For one, Elon had a strip procedure. During the 2000s, FUSS was the gold standard. Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) did exist, but few clinics found the technique to be viable or comparable to the strip. We have also located some pictures of Elon that we believe show a strip scar. However, it does appear that Elon had the strip taken a bit higher around the occipital region of the scalp.
Elon's Strip Scar
It's clear that Elon went to a talented surgeon, few surgeons in the world can produce a hairline as natural as the one Elon has today. It's clear that he had at least one hair transplant in the early 2000s, but the real transformation occurred after 2011. Not all hair restoration physicians are created equal. Their skills vary widely, as do their results. Rumors are circulating that Elon visited a surgeon approved and recommended by the Hair Transplant Network. There are likely non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) that will make verifying these claims impossible. However, you can research and review the surgeons recommended on the hair transplant network HERE. Maybe you can spot a similar hairline in one of their before and after images and draw your conclusion.
